Osvaldo Lanzalunga è lieto di invitarvi al seminario di dipartimento:

Catalytic Asymmetric Synthesis Using Bismuth and Iron Complexes

di

Thierry Ollevier
Université Laval
Québec, Canada

Il seminario si terrà in Sala Parravano il giorno venerdì 28 febbraio alle ore 14.30.

Abstract
Various Lewis acids have been developed as green catalysts for asymmetric synthesis. Chiral metal complexes derived from bismuth, iron, and copper salts have been employed in selected asymmetric C–C, C–Si, C–N, and C–S bond-forming reactions, such as the Mukaiyama aldol, epoxide opening, thia-Michael and Diels-Alder reactions. Enantioselective oxidation catalysts will also be presented. As part of our ongoing interest in the development of greener reaction conditions, we report alternate reaction solvent systems. These results will contribute to the development of green acid catalysis for asymmetric synthesis.

(1991) and Ph.D. (1997) at the Université de Namur, Belgium, and was postdoctorate fellow at the Université catholique de Louvain, Belgium under István E. Markó (1997), NATO postdoctorate fellow at Stanford University under Barry M. Trost (1998–2000), then postdoctorate fellow at the Université de Montréal under André B. Charette (2000–2001). After an Assistant Professor appointment (2001) at Université Laval in Quebec City, he became Associate (2006) and is currently Full Professor since 2010.
He has served as an Associate Editor of RSC Advances since 2015 and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2016. He has been awarded the “Best Young Presenter Prize” by the Australian Journal of Chemistry in 2012. He is a Member of the advisory board of SynOpen since 2019, Guest editor for RSC Advances – “Catalytic Organic Transformations” in 2019, and member of the editorial board of Current Organic Chemistry and Mini-reviews in Organic Chemistry.
He is author of about 95 publications in international journals, including 1 patent, 23 encyclopedia articles and 3 book chapters. He has been editor of the Topics in Current Chemistry Springer book Bismuth-Mediated Organic Reactions (2012).
He has presented more than 100 conferences, including 20 on invitation in scientific meetings.
He has served as Vice-President of the organic chemistry scientific committee of Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR, France) in 2017–2018 and he is now an expert for the Horizon 2020 program of the European Union.
Current research in his group aims at designing novel catalysts, developing catalytic reactions and applying these methods to chemical synthesis. He is active in the areas of asymmetric catalysis, design of new ligands, Lewis acid catalysis, synthetic green chemistry, chemistry in aqueous conditions, oxidation catalysis, fluorine chemistry, carbene chemistry, photochemistry, chemistry in flow.
