Bioproduction of fine chemicals by microalgae Line of research Microalgae cultivations for biofuel production are not economically sustainable yet. The research group developed a process for heterotrophic cultivation of microalgae (also using wastewaters) thus reducing both capital investment and operating costs of production of photobioreactors. Particular attention was paid to contaminant inhibition, maximisation of productivity, and extraction of lipid (including carotenoids) and starch (biorefinery).
