Research opportunities

If you work or study abroad and you are searching a research group that can host you, please take a look at our research lines and get in touch with the supervisor of the ones you are intersted most.

Direct Call

The Direct Calls program of the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR), provides opportunities to fund permanent academic positions to scientists and scholars who have been working abroad for at least three years in an equivalent position to the one they apply for. The program applies also to recipients of European Research Council (ERC) grants. 

Due to the emergency related to the Covid19, the Chemistry Deptement is still looking for candidates tenure/permanent positions in different areas of Chemistry. The new deadline is May 31, 2020.

Marie Curie Fellowships

Marie Curie Individual Fellowships (MCIF) are a great opportunity if you are an experienced researcher looking to give your career a boost by working abroad. Our department is very pleased to host young and motivated researchers at any stage of their careers. HPC-Europa3

HPC-Europa3 Transnational Access programme offers access to world-class High Performance Computing systems to researchers and scientific collaboration with host researchers in any field. Travel and living expenses are reimbursed for a maximum of 13 weeks. If you are a computational researcher please send an email to wellchem.chimica@uniroma1.it to discover the possible hosting groups.

Visiting Professors

Sapienza University annually finances the implementation of joint research activities by foreign visiting professors to be carried out on an ongoing basis:

  • Category A: Visits for periods of 30 days.

  • Category B: Visits for periods of 90 days.

A call is published each year in April. 

Senior Researchers from abroad

The Department of Chemistry will give all the support to experienced researchers interested in applying for tenure-track positions through Rita Levi-Montalcini program. Eligibility: candidates of all nationalities with a Doctoral degree (or equivalent) and who are carrying out teaching or post-doc research activities abroad from at least three years. 

PhD for students from abroad

Sapienza University of Rome offers 30 three-year-full-time postgraduate PhD positions with fellowship for attaining the degree of "Dottore di Ricerca" (PhD) in the Doctoral Schools. A call is expected to be published in February of each year.  

Italian Fund for Science Call

The first Call of the Fondo Italiano per la Scienza (Italian Fund for Science) to develop fundamental research activities has been published by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR).

The Call is open to researchers of any nationality. Two  funding schemes are provided:

  • Starting Grant: researchers (PIs Junior), with a PhD qualification, obtained no less than 2 years ago and no more than 10 years ago and with a potential for scientific independence to be highlighted in the proposals.
  • Advanced Grant: well-known researchers in their field (PIs Senior), aged up to 65 years at the time of submission of the proposal. Researchers who have been active for more than 10 years, must be acknowledged as leaders in the research field related to their project proposal. 

The Chemistry Department is looking for applications in the fields of Life Sciences and Physical sciences and Engineering.
