Chiara Cavaliere

Associate professor
Biography
Starting from September 2015 Dr. Cavaliere has the position of Associate Professor at Università di Roma “La Sapienza”. Before she had the permanent position of researcher (Dec. 2011-Aug. 2015) and a 3 year post-doc researcher contract (Feb. 2009-Nov. 2011) funded by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia). She graduated in Chemistry in 2002 (final mark 110/110) at La Sapienza. Then she spent a period (January-December 2003) in the Analytical Chemistry Department of Stockholm University with a fellowship from her University for the project: “Evaluation of selectivity of different molecular imprinted solid phase extraction materials in extracting sulfonamide antibiotics”. In May 2007 she disserted her PhD thesis in analytical chemistry on “Studies of plant proteomics and metabolomics by means of multidimensional analytical techniques”. Since 2004 Dr. Cavaliere has worked in Chemistry Department with collaboration contracts and research fellowships. Her researches are focused on development of innovative analytical methods, based on liquid chromatography She has received various funding from University "La Sapienza" for research projects and acquisition of scientific intrumentation. Moreover, she has been participant of several projects funded by Ministry of University and Scientific Research and Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, as well as by Italian Space Agency. Her researches are focused on development of innovative analytical methods, based on liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry, for determining substances present in various matrices such as food, water, animal and plant tissues. The results of her research are published on ca. 70 papers on international scientific journals with impact factor, and 4 international book chapters. Her total citations are more than 1400, h-index 23 (Source: Scopus,September 2015).
Research activity
Scientific area:
Analytical chemistry
Research activity:
The research activity of Dr. Cavaliere is focused on the development and validation of new analytical methods for the determination of contaminants at trace levels in several matrices (e.g., environmental, food and biological samples). These methods are mainly based on liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry. Another of her research line is the characterization of natural compounds, such as flavonoids and polyphenols, in plant extracts by liquid chromatography - high resolution mass spectrometry. For her research projects on plant and animal proteomics, including the differential analysis of organisms subject to changing of environmental conditions, nanoliquid chromatography coupled to high resolution mass spectrometry are the techniques of choice. She also studies the interactions between plasma proteins and nanoparticles used for gene/drug delivery.
