Andrea Martinelli

Associate professor
Biography
Professor Andrea Martinelli, graduated in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 1988, obtained his PhD in Chemical Sciences from the same University in 1992. In 1994, he won a post-doctoral fellowship in Chemical Sciences. In 1998, he taught the course of Materials Chemistry II for the Diploma in Materials Science of the Third University of Rome. Since 1999, he has been a university researcher for the scientific-disciplinary sector CHIM/04 (Industrial Chemistry) at the Department of Chemistry of the Sapienza University of Rome. He was confirmed in 2002. Since 2011, he has been an associate professor for the scientific-disciplinary sector CHIM/04 (Industrial Chemistry) at the Department of Chemistry of the Sapienza University of Rome and teaches the courses of Macromolecules and Macromolecules Laboratory for the master's degree in Industrial Chemistry. His main research lines include the following: • Characterization of thermal transitions of thermoplastic polymers using calorimetric, time- or temperature-resolved IR spectrometric, morphological, mechanical, and dynamic mechanical techniques; • Synthesis and characterization of polymers for biomedical uses. Preparation of micro- and nano-particles for drug delivery, scaffolds for tissue engineering; • Extraction and characterization of poly(hydroxyalkanoates) produced by mixed microbial cultures; • Chemical-physical and mechanical characterization of covalent adaptable networks prepared from sustainable sources. • Evaluation of plastic degradation and biodegradation in fresh and see-water.
