Stefano Di Stefano

Full professor
Biography
Stefano Di Stefano is a graduate (magna cum laude) of Università di Roma La Sapienza and received his PhD in 2000 with Professor L. Mandolini (PhD thesis: Supramolecular Catalysts for Amide and Ester Cleavage). After a period in the industry he came back to La Sapienza University where he has worked as a postdoctoral fellow. He has obtained a permanent position in 2007, first as a Researcher, then as an Associate Professor and currently as a Full Professor of Organic Chemistry. During his academic carreer he spent research periods in the laboratories of Prof. J. de Mendoza of Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (Spain) and of Prof. U. Luening of Albrecht Christian Universität of Kiel (Germany). His research interests are generally oriented in the field of supramolecular chemistry and in particular focused on the synthesis and development of supramolecular catalysts and on the understanding of their mechanism of action. His current studies involve the development of dynamic chemical systems under thermodynamic control for applications in the field of combinatorial supramolecular chemistry. He has open collaboration with Profs. Ercolani and Ricci (Tor Vergata, Rome), Casnati and Baldini (Parma), Lucarini (Bologna), Meijer (Eindhoven), Hunter (Cambridge), Costas (Girona), Leigh (Manchester), Walther (Mainz). In 2020 he was the recipient of the national prize for "CHIMICA ORGANICA NEI SUOI ASPETTI METODOLOGICI", which is assigned by the Italian Chimical Society to the excellent research in the field of Physical Organic Chemistry. He received the Prize for "EXCELLENT UNIVERSITY TEACHING" given by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematical Physical and Natural Science for the teaching of Physical Organic Chemistry in 2014 (first edition), 2017 (third edition), 2018 (fifth edition) and 2021 (seventh edition).
