Biography
Osvaldo Lanzalunga, was born in Salerno in 1965. He obtained his Laurea degree in 1989 and his PhD in Chemistry in 1993 at the University of Rome "La Sapienza". He got two research fellowships from the Italian National Research Council (CNR) at the Centro di Studio sui Meccanismi di Reazione (1994 and 1995). He became Researcher (1996-2004) and then Associate Professor in Organic Chemistry (2005) at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. He began the teaching activity in 1999 and now teaches the course “Organic Chemistry II with Laboratory”. He is Coordinator of the Ph.D. School in Chemical Science. His scientific activity is focused on the study of the electron transfer reactions in organic chemistry, on the role of reactive intermediates such as radicals and radical ions in organic and bioorganic reactions and the mechanism of enzymatic and biomimetic oxidation of organic substrates. He has started collaborations with several national and international research groups. He is author and coauthor of 65 oral and poster communications in national and international meetings and 84 publications in international journals. He is member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Sulfur Chemistry (2013-2015). He received the award “Enichem- Piano Giovani” from Enimont in 1989 and the award "Federchimica - per un futuro intelligente" in 1992.
Curriculum:
Research activity
Scientific area:
Organic chemistry
Research activity:
The research activity is focused on the study of radical and electron transfer processes, the role or radical and radical ion reactive intermediates in organic and biorganic processes and the mechanism of biomimetic and enzymatic oxidation of organic compounds. A special attention is dedicated to the study of the structural and medium effects on the generation and redox properties of aromatic radical cations and oxygen centred radicals by means of steady-state photolysis and time-resolved techniques such as laser flash photolysis and pulse radiolysis.
