Marco Bella

Associate professor
Biography
Marco Bella has been hired in 2005 at “Sapienza” University of Roma. His research interest is the synthesis of chiral bioactive molecules. developing novel strategies and asymmetric methodologies, with minimal environmental impact. Marco Bella was born in Roma in 1972. He got the "Laurea in Chimica" in 1997 (110/110 e cum laude) and "Dottorato di Ricerca" (PhD) in 2000 by Università “La Sapienza” di Roma under the supervision of Prof. Piancatelli. During his doctoral studies, he worked about six months in UK at the Universities of Leicester and Glasgow under the supervision of Prof. P Kocovsky. From Dec 2000 until early 2003 he was PostDoc in the group of Prof. K.C. Nicolaou, at The Scripps Research Institute, San Diego, California, working on the total synthesis of diazonamide A (antitumor agent) and thiostrepton (antibiotic). Between 2003 until 2005 he joined the group of Prof. K.A. Jørgensen, Aarhus Universitet, Aarhus, Denmark, working in the field of asymmetric organocatalysis. Since October 2015 he is associate professor of organic chemistry. He is co-author of more than 50 scientific publications on international journals such as Angewandte Chemie (9), JACS (6) Organic Letters (3), Chemistry A European Journal (4), with H index=27 and more than 3000 citations (Scopus, Database 2018). In March 2018 he was elected as a member of the Parliament of the Italian Republic.
