Sodium-seawater batteries for green electrochemical energy storage

Line of research
Sodium-seawater batteries consist of an anode immersed in a non-aqueous liquid electrolyte and a cathode based on seawater, separated by a Na+-conducting ceramic filter. The use of a renewable, abundant and naturally available resource, seawater, as the cathode material brings the advantages such as feasible scalability and environmental friendliness. The goal of this project is development of suitable catalysts promoting reactions at the cathode for enhanced energy density and cycle efficiency.
