On-surface synthesis of H-bonded organic structures and their characterization by synchrotron-based electron spectroscopies

Highly ordered H-bonded molecular structures are synthesized on surfaces by ultra-high-vacuum sublimation of small organic molecules containing heteroatoms like O and N. The corresponding electronic and structural properties are investigated by means of synchrotron-based electron spectroscopies such as X-ray Photoemission Spectroscopy (XPS) and Near edge X-ray Absorption Fine Structure Spectroscopy (NEXAFS). Additional morphological characterizations are performed through Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM).
