This research activity, carried out in collaboration with the European Commission Joint Research Center, Institute for Transuranium Elements, Karlsruhe (Germany), is focused on the thermodynamic and spectroscopic study of oxide systems consisting of zirconia and a transuranium oxide (Pu, Th, U). These systems are of interest because they can form under severe accident conditions involving the interaction between the nuclear fuel and the zirconium-based cladding materials.
