Lorenzo Gontrani

Born in Palermo on 6 April 1974, after high school (scientific maturity), he graduated in Chemistry (University of Rome "La Sapienza") in 1998 in the diffractometric structural chemistry group (X-rays). In 2002, he obtained a PhD in Chemical Sciences at the University of Pisa in the Theoretical Chemistry group - PCM (Proff. J. Tomasi and B. Mennucci). After a few years of employment in the pharmaceutical start-up C4T, where he developed computational methodologies in the field of drug discovery and bioinformatics, he spent a few years at CASPUR, University of Cagliari, La Sapienza and CNR-ISM as a fellow or research fellow. During this period, he was involved in theoretical and experimental studies (XRD, IR) of pure and mixed ionic and molecular liquids. He has participated in national and international projects (FIRB, PRIN, Prace TIER-0, ISCRA-C, ESRF) as principal investigator or investigator. He was a visiting fellow at the Blaise Pascal University of Clermont-Ferrand and at the QUILL laboratories in Belfast. In 2019-2020 he was appointed as contract lecturer in "General Chemistry" at Pharmacy (Rome Tor Vergata). Author of 94 publications (2256 citations / H26-Scopus) and referee of international journals in the sector, he supervised the activities of 12 Bachelor's, 6 Master's and 6 PhD theses. He is a member of the editorial board of the magazines Molecules, Symmetry and Crystals. He obtained the National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor in the SSD CHIM / 02, period 2018-2024, and for the sectors CHIM / 07 and FIS / 03, period 2020-2029. He is currently a fixed-term researcher type A (RTD-A) at the Chemistry Department of the University of Rome “La Sapienza” (Chemistry). His current research line deals with the modeling and experimental characterization of low melting eutectic solvents (DES) and inorganic systems, such as nano particles of oxidized graphene and oligoins functionalized with metal ions / atoms.
